Santa Barbara Girls Trip

August 11th, 2017

The last couple of weeks were some very busy ones! I took almost two weeks “off” (and by that I more or less mean running the business remotely) to do a little summer traveling. First on the agenda was a girls trip to Santa Barbara, and after that I jetted off to Washington D.C..

I headed down to the Central California coast with a group of girls to celebrate my friend, Ashley, who is a bride to be. I absolutely love Santa Barbara and was excited to plan a trip to the beautiful beach town for five days. I spent two years in San Luis Obispo for college, so Santa Barbara wasn’t too far away for me. However, it always seemed to be a pass through, or a place to stop but rarely was a place I dedicated an entire trip to. Needless to say, spending time here is never something I regret!

Since the purpose of my trip was to celebrate the bride to be and her close friends, I thought it would be best to rent a villa for our time there. It was the perfect option for a group of ladies, and made it easy because we were able to bring our own food and drinks – perfect for rose all day by the pool. I found some totally adorable places on AirBnB that will definitely be on my list for next time! Have a look at this quaint bungalow, this luxurious loft, and this light filled space! If and AirBnB isn’t exactly what you are looking for, I also have a couple of fantastic hotel recommendations. The Biltmore is a luxurious option that is absolutely worth the price tag. The service, the food, the views – it’s honestly all top notch. We ended up visiting here twice actually, once for dinner and once for appetizers and drinks. Sitting on the patio and watching the sun go down is an absolute must.

Another fantastic hotel option is The Canary, which is a Kimpton hotel. If you know me, you will know I have a soft spot for Kimpton hotels and if there is a location where I am vacationing, finding a Kimpton is always a sure fire way to know that I have a great place to stay. The Canary is located in downtown Santa Barbara near State Street, which has fantastic dining and shopping. Not to mention, the grounds boast a rooftop pool, so really what more could you need for a perfect getaway in Santa Barbara!?

One of the things I love most about Santa Barbara is the feeling that I get when I’m there. I feel instantly overcome with calmness and the coastal weather is hard to beat. You get the charm of smaller Northern California cities, without the crowds of Southern California. It truly is the perfect middle ground! While in Santa Barbara it is hard to ignore is the incredible Spanish inspired architecture – it seriously makes my heart skip a beat. I love how authentic so many of the homes are to Spanish revival, and the massive succulents and bright bougainvillea vines don’t hurt either!

A few of the things that we did while we were there (besides some serious lounge time by the pool) included wandering the beautiful streets, dining at some delicious spots, and hiring a yacht to take us out onto the ocean for a few hours. We had a lovely dinner at The Lark, which I would highly recommend. Our waiter was hospitable and the ambiance was perfection – fire pits on the patio made for the perfect evening with the coastal breeze. I eat a vegetarian diet, so I was delighted to see how many vegetarian options were on the menu! All of the food was served family style, which I love because that means you get to try out more things ;). I also made sure to stop by Backyard Bowls, known for their yummy acai bowls. I couldn’t dream of a more appropriate breakfast for a fun packed day in Santa Barbara.

As I mentioned, we hired a yacht from a family owned company that took us around the ocean for about two hours. This probably goes without saying, but it was an excellent decision! It was so much fun to be able to see Santa Barbara from the water and experience the coastal vibe. The staff on the boat were incredible and made the experience that much better. I must also mention the incredible massage at The Biltmore. The rose scented lotion they used was absolutely heavenly and I am still trying to get them to let me purchase it! All in all, it was a lovely trip to beautiful Santa Barbara.

Check back next week for another blog post highlighting my trip to Washington D.C. Hope you have a great weekend. Until next time!
