Happy August! I cannot believe that as I sit here typing it…this summer feels like it is absolutely flying by. Anyone else feeling that way too? I want to kick this month off right by highlighting a recent project of mine, lovingly dubbed “Country Chic“. This beautiful kitchen and bathroom update is featured on my website, so I thought it would be fun to delve a little deeper into the project and show you some of the before photos. Let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a good before and after photo!?
So, a bit more about the project. The main focus of the renovation was the kitchen and bathroom, however we did work throughout the home with updated lighting, a fireplace face lift, new windows, flooring, new front door, as well as some exterior work and landscaping. The home sits on a quiet street in the Sierra Oaks area of Sacramento and serves as a part time residence for my clients who are empty nesters and split their time between California and South Carolina. This actually happened to be a big factor in the project, as the clients were living in South Carolina for the entirety of the project. It required a lot of faith in me and we got creative with communication via email, texting, conference calls and FaceTime. It’s clients like this that remind me how much I love my job.
When it came to the design of the space, we did not add any square footage. Rather, we completely revamped the layout to better serve modern conveniences and the lifestyle of the homeowners. The clients gravitate towards a warm, lived-in palette and wanted to steer clear of anything that felt overly modern or cold. Bringing a client’s vision to life is one of the best parts about my job. I was able to capture all of the things that the client wanted the space to be. It was important to them that the space be a mixture of all of the places they love – a little country, a little modern, and a little bit eclectic and we hit the nail on the head!
One of the must haves that the clients requested was a large island, which just might be one of my favorite features of this project. A large island is so multifunctional, perfect for prepping, dining, entertaining, and so much more. While the end result of this kitchen is bright, functional, and airy, the before photos tell a different story. The space was compartmentalized prior to the redesign and felt very dark and perhaps even a bit depressing. We took several spaces to make one large and functional kitchen. It also may come as a surprise, but finding space for the appliances presented a challenge as well. I was also mindful to tie in the design between the kitchen and bathroom so that they complimented each other well. I pulled this together by using the same cabinet door style, paint palette and countertops. The beautiful Cambria quartz countertops are actually the same in both the kitchen and bath!
Overall, I am so pleased with how this project turned out! Take a look at the before and after photos below.
It’s almost hard to believe those before and after shots! But I can attest to the fact that they are in fact real 😉 I’m thrilled that my clients now have this cozy, bright, and beautiful space to call home when they are in California. Until next time!
